OKLAHOMA CITY – When most teams speak of goals about winning the national championship and having multiple All-Americans, its typically brazen optimism. For Oklahoma City University men's golf, it's expectation.
Â
The Stars return this fall after a NAIA runner-up finish last spring. There were four All-Americans on the Stars roster last year and two are back this fall. With a couple of new additions and experience coming back, the Stars seem aligned for another big season.
Â
"High expectations," said 2025 West Region Coach of the Year
Blake Trimble. "Coming off the season we had last year and with the number of returners, plus a couple solid additions, I expect we will be contending for another National Championship. Goals for this team are to be in the top five ranking all year, win multiple tournaments, have multiple all Americans, win conference, and win Nationals."
Â
Returning Golfers
Lorenzo Santinelli and
Christian Yanovitch were second- and first-team All-Americans last season, respectively. They head up a strong group of returning players, including senior classmate
Luke Woods and sophomores
Carter Ray,
Philipp Perzl,
Jack Newton and
JJ Grimm.
Â
"We have a team of natural leaders, self-motivated players, but I expect the older guys, Lorenzo and Christian, to be the leaders and help the younger guys out," said Trimble.
Â
Yanovitch averaged 70.3 strokes and had a pair of top three finishes. Santinelli finished in the top three once and averaged 71.5 strokes. Ray had a stroke average of 72.3, followed by Perzl at 72.4, Newton at 75.1, Grimm at 75.9 and Woods at 76.6.
Â
New Players
A pair of newcomers should make their presence felt quickly.
Cameron Bozyk transfers from Adrian College and
Simon Jansson comes in as a freshman from Gothenburg, Sweden.
Â
"We have a freshman from Sweden and a junior transfer from Michigan coming in this year that I believe will be able to jump right in and make an immediate impact on our team," Trimble said.
Â
Bozyk had a 74.9 stroke average at Adrian, picking up three wins. Jansson had a 74.2 stroke average in overseas tournaments.
Â
The Schedule
The Stars begin a rigorous fall schedule next week with the UC Ferguson Invitational at Lincoln Park. OCU also takes trips to Iowa, Florida and New Mexico before finishing the fall season in Blanchard.
Â
"We have a very solid fall schedule," Trimble said. "All of our tournaments will have some of the top NAIA teams playing. We will head to Florida in September, which will be our biggest tournament, with probably the best field.
After the home tournament, the Stars go to the Northwest Iowa Invitational Sept. 14, The Invite at Innisbrook in Florida Sept. 28, The Battle in the Desert in New Mexico on Oct. 6 and The Battle at Winter Creek in Blanchard on Oct. 13.
