Stars drop two to Northwood

OCU now 12-5 in SAC play

CEDAR HILL, Texas – Oklahoma City University suffered a pair of losses to Northwood (Texas) Friday at Knights Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 10 in NAIA baseball, dropped the first game 4-1 before falling 4-3 in the nightcap to fall to 24-11 overall and 12-5 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Northwood pushed a pair of runs across in the bottom of the fourth inning and jumped on the scoreboard first in game No. 1.
The Knights followed with two more runs in the bottom of the fifth and stretched their lead to 4-0.
Forrest Smith clubbed a solo home run over the right-field fence in the bottom of the sixth and cut the OCU deficit to 4-1.
Northwood's Cody Gray retired the Stars in the top of the seventh and handed OCU the 4-1 loss.
Starting pitcher Chris Pike allowed four runs on five hits and struck out eight in six innings of work but was saddled with the loss.
Smith went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead OCU at the plate. Garrett Foster also went 2-for-3.
Northwood pushed a run across in the bottom of the first and took and 1-0 in game No. 2.
Adam Clark singled up the middle and drove in Jared Baker from third base to even the score at 1-1 in the top of the second.
Baker reached on a fielder's choice and plated Adonis Askew to give OCU a 2-1 advantage in the top of the third.
The Stars took a 3-0 lead in the top of the fourth when Josh Halbert scored on a sacrifice bunt laid down by Clark.
The Knights responded with three runs in the bottom of the fourth and took a 4-3 lead.
Northwood held OCU scoreless the rest of the way and handed the Stars the 4-3 setback.
Michael Nolan allowed four runs on five hits with five strikeouts in 4.1 innings and picked up the loss.
Roby Romero threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief and struck out two.
Clark went 1-for-2 with a pair of RBIs to lead OCU at the dish. Baker went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
The Stars will return to action against Northwood at 2 p.m. Saturday at Knights Field in Cedar Hill, Texas.
