SAC baseball tournament comes to OCU

Stars meet Southwestern Assemblies of God at 6 p.m. Friday

The Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament runs Friday through Monday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University faces Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 6 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
The Stars, ranked 14th in the NAIA, also take on Texas Wesleyan at 5 p.m. Saturday and Northwood (Texas) at 5 p.m. Sunday in the SAC Tournament at Jim Wade Stadium.
The SAC Tournament title game will take place 1 p.m. Monday at Jim Wade Stadium featuring the pool-play winners. Pool play will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday at both OCU and Oklahoma Baptist.
Jim Wade Stadium hosts other pool-play games between Northwood and Texas Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Friday, Northwood vs. Southwestern Assemblies of God at 1 p.m. Saturday and Southwestern Assemblies of God against Texas Wesleyan at 1 p.m. Sunday.
Oklahoma City has captured nine SAC Tournament championships in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010. Lubbock Christian (Texas) won 6-5 in 10 innings over the Stars in the 2013 SAC Tournament final.
The Stars (32-16) boast of a pitching staff that ranks second in the NAIA in batters struck out. Chris Pike, a senior right-hander from Southampton, N.Y., threw a perfect game and no-hitter while holding opponents hitless through 17 innings in back-to-back outings on March 7 and 14. Pike owns a 9-2 record, 1.93 earned run average and 111 strikeouts in 74.2 innings. He is second nationally in strikeouts.
OCU's Brad Wieck tops the NAIA with 15.49 strikeouts per nine innings. Wieck, a 6-foot-9 junior left-hander from Canyon, Texas, has gone 4-4 with a 2.66 ERA and 105 strikeouts in 61 innings.
OCU also ranks second nationally with 1.04 homers per game and third with 50 homers. The Stars' Forrest Smith, a senior first baseman from Bakersfield, Calif., leads the NAIA with 16 homers while hitting .353 with 51 RBIs. Connor Lynch, a junior catcher from Marietta, Ga., ranks second nationally with a .789 slugging percentage while hitting .394 with 11 homers and 42 RBIs.
