Stars blank Mid-America Christian

Pike strikes out 10, Stars win 10-0

Hunter Marcum drove in a pair of runs against Mid-America Christian.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University shut out Mid-America Christian 10-0 Thursday at James Curtis Field.
Chris Pike struck out 10 and allowed one hit in seven scoreless innings to lead the Stars past the Evangels. OCU, ranked No 14 in NAIA baseball, outhit the Mid-America Christian 15-1 and improved to 30-16 overall and 18-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Mason Toole put the Stars on the scoreboard in the top of the second when he singled to center field and drove in Forrest Smith.
OCU doubled its lead to 2-0 in the top of the third when Kyle Lacy scored on a wild throw by the Evangels.
Ryan Wright clubbed a three-run homer to left with two outs in the top of the fourth and gave OCU a 5-0 advantage.
Hunter Marcum doubled to right and plated Jared Baker and Austin Murphy in the top of the seventh. Marcum later scored on a Mid-America Christian error and stretched the Stars' lead to 8-0.
Adonis Askew slugged a two-run bomb to left and gave OCU a 10-0 lead in the top of the eighth.
Holden Lyons retired the Evangels' side in order in the bottom of the eighth and handed the Stars to 10-0 run-rule victory.
Pike notched his fourth double-digit strikeout game of the season and improved to 9-2 as a starter.
Wright went 1-for-4 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the dish. Askew and Marcum followed with two RBIs apiece.
The Stars and Evangels will return to action in game No. 2 of the three-game series at 7 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
