Stars post 6-2 win over Texas Wesleyan

Clark leads OCU with three hits Friday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked off Texas Wesleyan 6-2 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium in the first Sooner Athletic Conference matchup between the two schools in baseball.
Adonis Askew, a junior from Houston, scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the third inning as the Stars erased a 2-0 deficit. OCU, ranked 11th in the NAIA, moved to 21-9, 10-3 in the SAC.
Askew reached home plate three times as he stole home plate twice on double steals. Forrest Smith drove in OCU's first run with a base hit that scooted past the Texas Wesleyan first baseman in the bottom of the first. The Stars tied the game 2-2 on the first of Askew's thefts.
In the fourth, Kyle Lacy reached on a walk and swiped second base. Lacy put the Stars in front 4-2 by getting home via a wild pitch.
In the seventh, Austin Murphy tacked on an RBI single to put OCU up 6-2.
Chris Pike earned the victory with eight innings of work. Pike improved to 6-1 on the year as he struck out seven. Pike, a senior right-hander from Southampton, N.Y., permitted two runs on seven hits and a walk. Pike threw 116 pitches. Josh Halbert finished the game on the mound, retiring Texas Wesleyan in order in the ninth.
Adam Clark, a junior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, went 3-for-4 with a stolen base for the Stars. Smith, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., was 2-for-2 with a run knocked in, while Connor Lynch, a junior from Marietta, Ga., went 2-for-3.
Josh Dickey, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., went 1-for-3 with a double, and Lacy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and a steal. Murphy, a junior from Denver, was 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Stars.
OCU and Texas Wesleyan finish their series with a noon doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
