OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pummeled Iowa Wesleyan 22-8 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, improved to 15-2. OCU pounded 22 hits in the nine-inning contest.
Kirk Walker nailed a grand slam, Austin Messerli cranked a two-run, pinch-hit homer and Terrance Jackson smacked a solo shot for OCU. Walker, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., went 3-for-6 with three runs scored and five RBIs.
Brian Fisher, a junior from Spring, Texas, went 4-for-6 with a run scored, two doubles and three RBIs, while Miguel Beltran, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, a double and three runs driven in for the Stars. Matt Presley, a senior from Colorado Springs, Colo., was 3-for-3 with a run scored, double and three RBIs, and Scott Dalrymple, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., went 3-for-6.
Cody Crabaugh benefited to get the win. Crabaugh, a sophomore right-hander from Edmond, Okla., moved to 3-0 while striking out four in five innings.
Ruben Sosa socked a triple to left field to lead off the game for OCU, then scored on a fielder's choice grounder. Beltran hit an RBI double off the left-field wall, then Mark Purser swatted a two-run double to left to give OCU a 4-0 first-inning advantage.
Jackson led off the fourth with a homer. Sosa reached home on a wild pitch, and Dalrymple had a run-scoring single. Presley added a sacrifice fly, and Fisher had a two-run double.
Walker's grand slam highlighted OCU's 10-run seventh.
The Stars meet Iowa Wesleyan again at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
