OKLAHOMA CITY – Southeastern Oklahoma State halted Oklahoma City University's 23-game win streak in an 18-12 decision Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, fell to 23-3. OCU tied its program record with a 23-game winning string after an 0-2 start on the year.
Southeastern pounded five home runs among its 15 hits to overcome a 10-2 deficit. Winds reached 30 mph out to center field at Jim Wade Stadium.
Zach Ragsdale, Kevin Phillips and Justin Miller homered as Southeastern plated four runs in the fifth inning to cut OCU's lead to 10-7. Eric Walker's two-run triple tied the game 10-10 in the sixth.
Walker provided Southeastern the go-ahead run on an RBI double. Brad Shankle socked a two-run homer to increase Southeastern's advantage to 13-10.
Dearth Parker and Terrance Jackson nailed back-to-back homers to cut OCU's deficit to 13-12 in the seventh. Southeastern held the Stars without a run the rest of the way.
James Taylor held OCU scoreless from the third to the fifth innings in getting the win. Cody Crabaugh was saddled with the loss.
The Stars posted six runs to take a 9-2 second-inning lead. Mark Purser swatted a two-run double, then Kirk Walker followed with a double to score Purser. Scott Dalrymple brought in a run with a base hit, then Dalrymple scored on Miguel Beltran's two-run blast over the right-field wall. Matt Presley's sacrifice fly put OCU ahead 10-2 in the third.
Purser, a senior from Spokane, Wash., went 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Parker, a senior from Roff, Okla., went 2-for-3, scored twice and drove in a run for OCU. Dalrymple, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., was 2-for-5 with a run scored and two RBIs, and Walker, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and a run driven in.
The Stars take on Hastings (Neb.) at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
