OCU socks Central Oklahoma 7-1

Pollard, Sosa crank home runs as Stars improve to 7-2

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University downed Central Oklahoma 7-1 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.

Julien Pollard and Ruben Sosa nailed home runs to lift OCU. The Stars, ranked seventh in NAIA baseball, moved to 7-2 on the year.

Rich Hawkins, a junior left-hander from Edmond, Okla., picked up his first victory as a Star. Hawkins kept Central Oklahoma scoreless through five innings on four hits. Hawkins fanned six. He threw 80 pitches, 51 for strikes.

Sosa, a junior from Lawrence, Kan., put OCU on the board with a solo blast in the fourth. He added a bases-loaded hit by pitch in the fifth. Pollard, a senior from Tacoma, Wash., went 3-for-5 and scored twice.

The Stars scored three times each in the fifth and the eighth. Chad Carman added an RBI single in the fifth, then socked a double that kicked up the left-field foul-line paint to clear a bases-loaded situation in the eighth. OCU took a 7-1 advantage on Carman's three-run double.

Carman, a junior from Midwest City, Okla., went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Scott Dalrymple, a senior from Beaverton, Ore., went 3-for-5, while Miguel Beltran, a junior from Long Beach, Calif., was 2-for-3 with a run scored for OCU. Kirk Walker, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., went 2-for-5 and scored a run.

Cody Crabaugh went three innings and gave up Kevin Blue's RBI base hit for Central Oklahoma's run in the sixth. Steve Styck finished on the mound for OCU in the ninth.

The Stars take on Sooner Athletic Conference foe Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Friday in Plainview, Texas.
