This Week in OCU Baseball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City plays its final regular-season road games this week with a non-conference stop on Tuesday at Sterling College before visiting the Drovers at USAO on Friday and Saturday.

OCU plays at Sterling at 2 p.m., followed by a 6 p.m. series-opener in Chickasha on Friday and concluding with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

OCU Notebook
Previously: Oklahoma City grabbed the final game of its Sooner Athletic Conference baseball series against Nelson with an 8-7 win on Saturday. The Stars had 13 hits, led by Brittain Brewer with three and Trent Baker, Aiden Van Rensum and Wyatt Pace with two each. Baker went six innings with seven strikeouts and allowed three earned runs to get the pitching win. Nick Anaya converted a save in a high-pressure ninth inning.

SAC Standings: OCU is tied with College of the Ozarks (which visits OCU next week) for fifth place. OCU is a game behind Wayland Baptist and Central Christian and holds the head-to-head tiebreaker against both. The Stars have sealed a postseason berth and are now playing for the right to host a first-round series, which requires being in the top four. USAO and Nelson are only a game behind.

Trent Baker is hitting a team-best .391 while Aiden Van Rensum had four home runs and 21 RBIs. OCU's bullpen has performed well on the road, led by Nick Anaya, who is 2-1 with a save and an 1.04 earned run average in seven appearances.

OCU in Non-Con Games: OCU is 4-12 in non-conference games. Aiden Van Rensum is batting .400 wit seven home runs and 26 RBIs in those 16 games. The pitching has struggled to a 9.47 team ERA in non-conference games.

Against the SAC: The Stars are 11-10 against the Sooner Athletic Conference and a nice 8-4 in SAC road games. Trent Baker (.474) and Brittain Brewer (.431) have feasted on SAC pitching. The Stars have a team ERA of 5.49 and a team batting average of .288 against SAC opponents.

Hitting: The Stars are batting .287 this season, led by Trent Baker at .385. Aiden Van Rensum has a .361 batting average and leads OCU with 11 home runs, a .762 slugging percentage and a .1268 OPS.

Pitching: OCU has a 7.39 team earned run average, led by Cayden Maxwell at 5.57 among starting pitchers. Nick Anaya has a 3.24 ERA to lead the bullpen.

On the Bases: The Stars have been successful in 83 of their 97 stolen base attempts. Trent Baker is 26 of 28 and Cooper Holtorf has been safe on 19 of 22 tries.

About Sterling: OCU is 1-2 against Sterling this season, including a 16-15 win in the last meeting. The Knights are 19-19 after taking two of three at Evangel over the weekend. About USAO: The Drovers are 15-18 overall and 10-11 in the Sooner Athletic Conference after taking all three games from Panhandle State by a combined 61-12. USAO is batting .313 with a 6.50 team earned run average. Solomon Harwood has a .433 batting average to lead the team and Henry Garcia has 10 home runs and 35 RBIs.
