This Week in OCU Baseball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City finishes the regular season this week and transitions into the Sooner Athletic Conference playoffs.
 
The Stars host Southern Nazarene in a 6 p.m. game on Tuesday before Wayland Baptist comes in for a best-of-three playoff series on the weekend. Game times on Friday are at 1 and 4 p.m. with the if-necessary game set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
 
OCU Notebook
Previously: The Stars are coming off a three-game sweep of College of the Ozarks, which gave OCU the home field advantage for the playoffs. The Stars had a 3.91 team ERA for the weekend, led by closer Nick Anaya who had two saves. Four Stars hit .500 or better for the series: Eli Hill (.571), Wyatt Pace (.561), Aiden Alexander (.500) and Jared Raasch (.500).
 
SAC Playoffs: Oklahoma City will be the third seed for the upcoming Sooner Athletic Conference first round, best-of-three series against sixth-seeded Wayland Baptist. The other first-round matchups have top-seeded Texas Wesleyan hosting College of the Ozarks, No. 7 USAO at No. 2 Mid-America Christian and No. 5 Nelson at No. 4 Central Christian.
 
Stars at Home: The Stars are 9-12 at home this season with a .311 batting average and a team earned run average of 8.33. Aiden Alexander leads the team with a .420 batting average at home while Aiden Van Rensum is hitting .382 with nine home runs and 30 runs batted in. Nick Anaya has a team-best 4.82 ERA at home.
 
Non-Conference: OCU is 5-12 outside of conference games and has a .300 batting average and a 9.87 earned run average over those 17 games. Clayton Allen is batting .529 against non-SAC foes. Aiden Van Rensum is batting .441 with nine home runs and 33 RBIs in 17 non-conference games.
 
Against the SAC: OCU ended the regular season with a 15-12 record against the SAC. The Stars hit .292 against league opponents, led by Trent Baker at .440. Aiden Van Rensum had six home runs and 28 RBIs in SAC games. The team sported a 6.00 team earned run average with Tanner Ellis leading the way at 2.77 in seven relief appearances.
 
Hitting: OCU is hitting.295 this season with 54 home runs. Trent Baker leads the team with a .377 batting average. Aiden Van Rensum is hitting .367 with 15 home runs and 61 RBIs. Van Rensum leads the SAC in RBIs and is second in home runs. He also is seventh in the NAIA in RBIs.
 
Pitching: The Stars have a 7.48 team earned run average. SAC series starters have primarily been Bauer Brittain (4-3, 5.46), Cayden Maxwell (3-8, 5.97) and Trent Baker (3-4, 6.45). Closer Nick Anaya leads the team with a 3.60 ERA and six saves.
 
On the Bases: OCU has 90 stolen bases in 109 attempts this season. Trent Baker leads the Sooner Athletic Conference with 29 steals this season. Cooper Holtorf has 19 thefts and Aiden Alexander has 16.
 
Stars vs. SNU: OCU won the meeting in Bethany earlier this season, 18-10. Aiden Van Rensum and Clayton Allen had three hits each with Van Rensum adding a home run and five RBIs. Dominica Garcia had three hits and four RBIs for the Crimson Storm. SNU is 9-36 this season after getting swept in three games at home against Harding. Kane Springer leads SNU with a .365 batting average and Josh Bay has 17 home runs and 49 RBIs. The Storm have a .301 batting average and a 12.33 team ERA.
 
Stars vs. WBU: OCU took two of three from Wayland Baptist at the end of February. Cayden Maxwell and Bauer Brittain got the pitching wins for the Stars. Trent Baker hit .600 with three doubles in the series. The Pioneers are 29-19 on the season after getting swept at No. 17 Texas Wesleyan in three close games. Adonis Bernal leads WBU at .367 with nine homers and 52 RBIs. WBU's primary starters have been Branin Seibert (4-5, 4.76 ERA), Antonio Mejia (2-3, 6.36) and Tate House (2-4, 7.06). The Pioneers have a 5.31 team ERA and are hitting .301.
