This Week in OCU Baseball

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University baseball has a four-game schedule this week – all at home.
 
The Stars begin the week with a 1 p.m. game on Tuesday against 12th-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan and round out the week with a three-game Sooner Athletic Conference set with No. 16 Wayland Baptist at 12:03 and 3 p.m. on Friday and 12:03 on Saturday.
 
OCU Notebook
Previously: Oklahoma City came from behind and claimed its opening Sooner Athletic Conference series with a 5-2 win over Central Christian on Saturday. Trent Baker (1-1) struck out six, allowed five hits and two runs in the complete-game victory for OCU. He allowed a two-run home run in the third inning for the lone blemish. OCU broke up the shutout in the sixth when Aiden Van Rensum doubled and later scored on a fielder's choice by Clayton Allen. The Stars tied the game in the eighth when Heath Brown laid down a perfect bunt with bases loaded for an RBI single. OCU scored three in the top of the ninth on an error, another bases-loaded bunt by Wyatt Pace for an RBI, and a run-scoring balk. The Stars finished the game with nine hits, including two each by Pace, Van Rensum and Aiden Alexander.
 
Hitting: The Stars are hitting .250 as a team. Aiden Van Rensum has a .347 batting average, five home runs and 17 RBIs to lead the team in those categories,
 
Pitching: OCU has a 7.96 team earned run average. Trent Baker leads the starters with a 3.93 ERA and Nick Anaya has the best ERA out of the bullpen at 1.50. Bauer Brittain leads the team with 22 strikeouts.
 
On the Basepaths: OCU is 28 of 33 in stolen bases this season, led by Trent Baker, who is perfect in 10 attempts. Cooper Holtorf and Aiden Alexander are both six of seven.
 
About Oklahoma Wesleyan: The Eagles are 12-4 this season after taking two of three from St. Mary last weekend. JT Maloney is batting .408 while Wally Diaz has seven home runs and 22 RBIs. OWU hits .303 as a team and brings a team ERA of 3.84 into the game.
 
About Wayland Baptist: The Pioneers are 14-5 overall and 3-0 in the SAC after taking three one-run games from Nelson last weekend. WBU has won 10 in a row – the last five by one run each game. The Pioneers are led by Cesar Ibarra, who is hitting .389. The team has a .283 team batting average and carries a 5.18 team earned run average.
