About the Stars

  • Oklahoma City will begin conference play after putting together a 14-8 record through the non-conference side of the season.
  • The Stars have been a streaky team in 2024 winning its first eight games out of the gate before losing six straight and currently have won five of its last six games.
  • OCU comes off a big series win a week ago over #25 Freed-Hardeman where the Stars took the first two games of the series (3-0, 11-4) before dropping the possibility of a sweep 11-7.
  • Trent Kiraly will enter the conference opener on a heater while leading the team in batting average (.430), hits (34), doubles (8), home runs (10) and RBIs (29).
  • Kiraly carries a six-game hitting streak into the series against MACU as the senior strung together multiple hits in each game of the series against Freed-Hardeman last weekend. Kiraly sits tied for third in home runs in all the NAIA and earned last week's SAC Player of the Week award.
  • Darian Duhon follows right behind Kiraly with a batting average just north of .400 as the junior leads the team with 29 runs scored and a team-best .489 OBP. Duhon has scored a run in four consecutive games and played a big role in game two against Freed-Hardeman by going 2-for-4 with three RBIs, three runs scored, and a homer.
  • Second Baseman Hunter Lenochan could very well be joining Kiraly as the team's hottest hitter right now as the junior has strung along a 10-game hitting streak and collected a career-high four hits in game two against the Lions.
  • Tristan Williams joins Lenochan with a 10-game hitting streak of his own while coming off back-to-back two-hit games including a four-RBI game in the series finale against Freed-Hardeman going 2-for-3 with a home run.
  • Kade Shatwell made his career debut at Jim Wade Stadium on Friday by tossing six shutout innings and striking out four. Shatwell has made two starts this season and holds a 2.53 ERA.
  • Chad Pike has seen solid seasons on the mound and at the plate being OCU's top two-way player. On the mound, Pike has made nine appearances while totaling a 2.25 ERA and is second in the NAIA with six saves.
  • Pike also has been on a tear offensively hitting .279 on the year tying for the second most home runs on the team with five. Pike entered with a six-game hitting streak and scored in five straight games. Against Freed-Hardeman in game two, Pike went 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs scored, and four RBIs.

  • The Evangels opened SAC play last weekend against USAO where Mid-America Christian took two of three from the Drovers.
  • MACU last played on Wednesday against Tabor where it suffered a run-rule defeat by a score of 14-4.
  • Kyle Williams serves as the team's only player with an average above .400 but has just one RBI in his last six games.
  • Sophomore D'Andre Gaines ties Williams for the team lead in hits notching a base knock in his last three games.
  • Noel McGarry-Doyle leads the way with three home runs while batting .382 with a team-leading 17 RBIs. McGarry-Doyle carries an eight-game hitting streak into this weekend's series and had seven straight games with an RBI before that was snapped on Wednesday against Tabor.
  • Issac Baez has been a stellar ace for the Evangels on the mound having a 4-1 record with a 2.33 ERA and 37 strikeouts. Baez comes off winning SAC pitcher of the week after throwing seven strong innings in a 4-3 victory over Science & Arts. Baez tossed seven innings, allowing the top-hitting team in the SAC to just one earned run on six hits with a walk and nine strikeouts. Baez finished the day with a 1.00 whip.
