Box Score 2 OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University ran its season record to 20-1 with a Sooner Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep over Southwestern Christian on Sunday afternoon at Eagle Field at Dolese Park.
OCU won the opener 16-5 before wrapping up a series sweep over the Eagles with a 3-1 win in game two. The Stars, ranked sixth in NAIA baseball, own a 15-game winning streak.
Senior first baseman
Peyton Crispin provided OCU a 2-0 lead with a two-RBI double in the top of the first inning of the opener. Sophomore shortstop
Chad Pike added a two-RBI double in the third inning and senior center fielder
Cross Factor added a RBI single in the fourth to build the lead to 5-0.
OCU then exploded for seven runs on three hits in the fifth inning to build an insurmountable 12-0 lead. The Stars scored on a wild pitch, hit batter, passed ball and RBI ground out in the knock-out inning before senior designated hitter
Cade Stephens delivered a two RBI double to left field to increase the lead to 11-0.
OCU out-hit SCU 14-5 in the win with Factor, Stephens, Pike and freshman second baseman
Hunter Lenochan delivering two hits apiece.
Junior
Eli Davis (3-0) picked up the win after allowing no runs on one hit with two strikeouts and three walks in four innings of work. Freshman
Rylan Roberson allowed five runs (three earned) in two innings of relief work while sophomore
Anthony Kopecky allowed one run in one inning.
The series finale was much tighter but OCU earned the win behind a RBI single by senior second baseman
Noah Barks in the third inning, RBI double by Crispin in the sixth and RBI triple by Barks in the seventh inning.
SCU (11-9, 1-5 SAC) loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but OCU sophomore relief pitcher
Braden Hill ended the threat with a strikeout, sacrifice fly and ground out.
Each team finished with seven hits in game two. Barks, Crispin and senior third baseman
Darian Luper finished with two hits apiece for the Stars.
Senior
Tanner Sparks (3-0) earned the win for the Stars. He allowed no runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks in six innings of work. After senior
Jacob Wright allowed a lead off single in the bottom of the seventh inning, Hill closed out the game and earned the save after allowing no runs on two hits with one strikeout.
OCU returns to action on Tuesday for a home non-conference game against Sterling (Kan.). First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
