OCU sweeps first SAC baseball players of week

Milligan becomes SAC pitcher of week for second time

OKLAHOMA CITY – Caleb Davis and Bryce Milligan from Oklahoma City University reeled in the Sooner Athletic Conference's first baseball player of the week honors of the season.
The player of the week nod went to Davis, a junior outfielder from Yukon, Okla., while the pitcher of the week accolade was given to Milligan, a junior right-hander from Blanchard, Okla.
Milligan no-hit Grand View (Iowa) in Oklahoma City's season-opening 2-0 win Friday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium. Milligan worked seven innings and struck out eight. Milligan took the second SAC pitcher of the week acclaim of his career.
Marcus Chieves reached on an error to give Grand View its first base runner with one out in the third inning. Milligan had two hit batsmen in the fourth and seventh innings. He retired the Vikings in order in the first, second, fifth and the sixth. Three runners reached scoring position on the day against Milligan, who logged 98 pitches, 66 for strikes. He threw the Stars' first no-hitter since Skylar Janisse's no-no on March 26, 2016 at Jim Wade Stadium in an 18-0 win over Mid-America Christian.
Davis produced an .800 average with a double, two home runs, eight RBIs and six runs scored with a 1.500 slugging percentage during the week of Jan. 28-Feb. 3.
Davis went 6-for-6 in two Stars wins Saturday afternoon at Jim Wade Stadium. In an 8-2 win over Grand View (Iowa), Davis pounded a three-run home run for his first homer of the season. Davis turned in a 3-for-3 performance with three runs scored. In a 7-1 victory over York (Neb.), Davis hammered his second homer of the day over the left-field wall to stake OCU to a 4-0 first-inning advantage. On Sunday, Davis was 2-for-2 with a double and three runs driven in.
The Stars, ranked eighth in NAIA baseball, posted a 4-0 mark during their opening weekend. Oklahoma City swept the conference's weekly awards for the first time since the week of Feb. 5-11, 2018.
