OCU enters NAIA World Series as top seed

Top-ranked Stars play 6:30 p.m. PDT May 27

LEWISTON, Idaho – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University opens play in the NAIA World Series at 8:30 p.m. CDT May 27 at Harris Field.
Oklahoma City (48-8) awaits the winner of Hope International (Calif.) and 20th-rated William Carey (Miss.), who meet 5 p.m. CDT May 26. OCU enters the World Series as the top seed in its 15th appearance and first World Series trip since 2012.
There will be live audio, stats and video for the World Series. Fans can see the games for $9.95 per day or via a $29.95 tournament pass. Games May 31-June 2 will be broadcast on ESPN3.
Oklahoma City clinched its World Series bid with a come-from-behind 17-16 triumph in 10 innings over 23rd-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) on Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium in the championship game of the NAIA Baseball Championship Opening Round Oklahoma City Bracket. Shaun Corso smashed a two-out hit into the left-field corner to drive in three runs, including the winning RBI.
"I got in there and just got a pitch," Corso said. "I knew a fastball was coming. I just wanted to make sure I was down on time and pull the ball. It's awesome. It means a lot to this program. It means a lot to these guys and our alumni. We're just glad to get back there after the drought. We need to be there. We're Oklahoma City, and that's what we're about, so I'm happy to be on the team that got us back there."
Denney Crabaugh improved his coaching record to 1,400-434-2 with the win. Crabaugh has led OCU to 13 World Series trips and the 2005 national title.
"Our guys never give up," Crabaugh said. "We've done that many times this year. You go back to the conference championship game where we came from behind three times. There wasn't any panic in the dugout. We knew we had a chance as long as we had outs left.
"This is a sweet, sweet win. For the alumni, for the program to get back after not being there for four years. I'm really happy for our guys like Jared Baker and Holden Lyons who have been here for four years. This is their senior year, and they get a chance to go to Lewiston and get to play in the World Series."
The Stars lead the NAIA with 168 doubles, 3.00 doubles a game and a .608 slugging percentage this season. See how OCU compares to the rest of the NAIA by clicking here.
