SAC baseball tournament comes to OCU

Conference tournament championship to be held 1 p.m. May 8 in Chickasha, Okla.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University meets Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) at 11 a.m. Friday in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars (41-8) host a four-team double-elimination bracket, while USAO will be the site for the other four-team bracket in the SAC Tournament.
The bracket winners will be decided 2 p.m. Sunday with an if-necessary game afterwards. The championship will be held 1 p.m. Monday, May 8 at USAO's Bill Smith Ballpark. Last year, USAO collected its first SAC baseball tournament title 4-2 over Wayland Baptist (Texas) on May 9, 2016 at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU owns 11 SAC Tournament crowns. The Stars took the SAC regular-season championship for the first time since 2013, rising to No. 1 in the latest poll April 18 for the first time since the May 8, 2015 rankings after winning the SAC Tournament. The conference includes three ranked teams – No. 1 OCU, 13th-ranked Texas Wesleyan and 18th-ranked USAO.
Oklahoma City's Lane Milligan, a junior catcher-outfielder from Englewood, Colo., boasts of a .427 batting average, while Shaun Corso, a junior third baseman from Lancaster, Pa., has added a .399 average with eight home runs and 44 RBIs. Jared Baker, a senior outfielder from Edmond, Okla., paces OCU with 14 homers and 64 RBIs. Baker recently became OCU's career leader with 79 doubles.
Matt Young, a junior right-hander from Glendora, Calif., tops the Stars in earned run average (2.23) and strikeouts (95), while Mark Simon, a senior righty from Houston, leads the pitching staff with nine victories.
