Millgan of OCU nabs SAC player of week

Junior from Englewood, Colo., went 8-for-11 vs. Texas Wesleyan

OKLAHOMA CITY – Lane Milligan of Oklahoma City University took Sooner Athletic Conference baseball player of the week honors for his play the week of April 3-9.
Milligan, a junior catcher-outfielder from Englewood, Colo., went 8-for-11 with three home runs in three games. The Stars, ranked second in the NAIA, picked up a series win over 12th-ranked Texas Wesleyan.
Milligan drove in four runs in the series and scored six to become the sixth Oklahoma City hitter in eight weeks to grab player of the week honors. OCU has also had the pitcher of the week in three of the eight weeks.
The highlight of the week came in game one against Texas Wesleyan when Milligan came to the plate in the bottom of the ninth with the Stars trailing 7-6. Milligan promptly lifted a 1-1 pitch over the right-field fence to put the game into extra innings. Milligan scored the tying run on a passed ball before Joe Lytle scored OCU's winning run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the 13th.
On the week, Milligan hit .727 and had a 1.636 slugging percentage while also drawing three walks. He hit his second and third homers of the weekend in the game three loss against Texas Wesleyan. Milligan recorded four of the Stars' seven hits and scored all three runs for OCU in game three.
For the season, Milligan leads OCU with a .509 batting average. In just 15 games he has recorded five homers, 17 RBIs, 20 runs scored, 12 walks and has only struck out once in 53 at-bats.
OCU continues conference play Thursday with a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Wayland Baptist (Texas) in Plainview, Texas.
