Stars sweep weekly SAC awards

Baker garners fifth career SAC player of week nod

OKLAHOMA CITY – Jared Baker and Roberto Delgado of Oklahoma City University grabbed Sooner Athletic Conference baseball player and pitcher of the week, respectively, for their performances the week of March 6-12.
The Stars, ranked fourth in the NAIA, took both the player and pitcher of the week for the second time this season. Jerame Littell and Matt Young did so for Jan. 30-Feb. 5.
Baker, a senior from Edmond, Okla., went 7-for-12 over four games to help OCU go 4-0 on the week. He hit three homers, two doubles and had 11 RBIs while also drawing four walks.
In the Stars' 22-11 win over Roosevelt (Ill.), Baker went 3-for-4 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored and six RBIs. Baker averaged 1.5 runs scored per game and had a whopping 1.583 slugging percentage.
On the season, Baker is hitting .416 with 15 doubles, 10 home runs, 39 RBIs, and an .861 slugging percentage. Baker now has now taken home the award five times in his Oklahoma City career.
Delgado, a junior out of Killeen, Texas, was solid on the mound for OCU in the Stars' 7-0 win over Southwestern Christian. He threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just four hits and striking out seven in nine innings.
Delgado is now 5-1 with a 2.55 earned run average this season. He has allowed just 23 hits in 35.1 innings of work while striking out a team-high 47 batters and holding opponents to a .178 batting average against.
This season, an Oklahoma City player has garnered hitter of the week five times and pitcher of the week three times.
