Stars hold SAC baseball tournament

OCU enters tournament as defending champion

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University takes on Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 2:30 p.m. Friday in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU (37-17) hosts a four-team double-elimination bracket, while USAO will be the site for the other four-team bracket to comprise the SAC Tournament.
The bracket title games will be 2 p.m. Sunday with an if-necessary game ready to follow. The championship game pitting the winners of the two brackets is set for 1 p.m. Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars captured the 2015 SAC Tournament with a dramatic finish. Connor Lynch pounded a ninth-inning grand slam to rally OCU to a 7-5 victory and complete two wins for its 11th SAC Tournament title.
Landon Coon, a senior from Dale, Okla., leads OCU with a .431 batting average, 81 hits and 60 RBIs, while Jared Baker, a junior from Edmond, Okla., has piled up team highs with 25 doubles, six triples and a .754 slugging percentage. J.J. Bissell, a senior from Fort Collins, Colo., has hammered a team-best 16 home runs.
Skylar Janisse, a senior right-hander from Maidstone, Ontario, Canada, sports a 6-4 record, 3.36 earned run average, 68 strikeouts in 67 innings and a no-hitter against Mid-America Christian. Mark Simon, a junior righty from Houston, leads the Stars with seven victories and 71 strikeouts.
Denney Crabaugh notched career win No. 1,350 when OCU finished off a doubleheader sweep of St. Gregory's 8-3 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium. Crabaugh has a 1,351-424-2 record in his 28th campaign as OCU head coach.
