OCU sweeps SAC softball awards for fourth time this year

Pugh, Wall notch conference honors again

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Kali Pugh and Georgia Wall reeled in both the Sooner Athletic Conference's weekly softball awards.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, took both SAC player of the week and pitcher of the week for the second consecutive week and fourth time this season.
Pugh, a junior from Vista, Calif., became league player of the week for the second time this year. Pugh put up a .455 batting average with two home runs and seven RBIs during the week of April 18-24. Pugh went 5-for-11 with eight runs scored, two triples, a stolen base and a 1.364 slugging percentage.
This season, Pugh has hit .431 with 16 doubles, five triples, 14 homers, 58 RBIs and 15 steals. Pugh leads the NAIA in runs scored (71) while ranking second in total bases (146), third in hits (78) and fifth in runs scored per game (1.34) and at-bats (181).
Wall, a freshman from Marlow, Okla., grabbed her third SAC hurler of the week nod. Wall picked up two wins and allowed no runs on six hits in 10 innings for two complete games. She struck out 13 and walked three. Stars have taken the past four SAC pitcher of the week awards.
In 2016, Wall has gone 17-0 with a 0.39 earned run average, 12 complete games, seven shutouts and two saves while fanning 116 in 107 innings. Wall tops the NAIA in ERA with the fewest runs allowed (13) and earned runs allowed (six). OCU leads the NAIA with a 0.87 team ERA.
Phil McSpadden posted his 20th 50-win season when the Stars swept Mid-America Christian on Thursday at Ann Lacy Stadium. McSpadden has guided OCU to a 1,530-362 record in his 29th season.
Oklahoma City (52-1, 23-1 SAC) plays next at Mid-America Christian in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Thursday. The Stars' next home games will be a 2 p.m. twin bill Friday against USAO. Watch the games
