Senior right-hander from Rio Rancho, N.M., pulls in first career weekly SAC honor

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University's Carlos Chavez notched the first Sooner Athletic Conference baseball pitcher of the week award of the season for the week of Feb. 1-7.
Chavez, a senior right-hander from Rio Rancho, N.M., posted 13 strikeouts while permitting two runs on six hits in seven innings in the Stars' 5-2 win over LSU-Shreveport on Friday in Shreveport, La.
In his OCU career, Chavez owns a 9-0 record. Chavez also had a sixth-inning run-scoring single for the game-winning RBI against LSU-Shreveport, ranked 11th in the NAIA.
The fifth-ranked Stars meet MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.) at 3 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium. Watch the game live.
