OCU hosts SAC baseball tournament

Six-team, double-elimination tournament starts 11 a.m. Monday

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University takes on Texas Wesleyan at 6 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
The Stars, ranked No. 2 in the latest NAIA polls, gathered the second seed in the SAC tournament behind third-ranked Oklahoma Baptist.
Other games Friday will be Oklahoma Baptist vs. Southwestern Christian at 11 a.m. and USAO vs. Wayland Baptist (Texas) at 2:30 p.m. The title game will be played noon Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.

Oklahoma City owns nine SAC Tournament championships won in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010. Oklahoma Baptist topped the Stars 19-5 in the 2014 SAC Tournament final.
The Stars (38-10) boast of a pitching staff that ranks sixth in the NAIA in total batters struck out (412). Matt Young is 8-0 on the year, while Dustin Cook and Carlos Chavez are 7-0. Chavez, a junior from Rio Rancho, N.M., leads the Stars with a 1.87 earned run average and 89 strikeouts in 72.1 innings. Cook, a junior right-hander from Huffman, Texas, has posted a 1.93 ERA with one complete-game shutout and 94 strikeouts in 60.2 innings. Young, a sophomore righty from Glendora, Calif., has a 3.32 ERA and 76 strikeouts in 65 innings.
OCU's Reggie Wilson ranks fourth nationally with 1.32 runs scored a game. Wilson, a junior from Beaumont, Texas, leads the team with 60 hits, 58 runs scored and 16 stolen bases. Wilson hits .377 and a .500 on-base percentage in the leadoff spot.
The Stars' Joe Lytle sits sixth in the NAIA with total doubles (21) and doubles per game (0.46). Lytle, a freshman from Yukon, Okla., leads OCU with a .387 batting average and 70 hits while slugging .597 and scored 41 runs. To see how the Stars rank among the NAIA, click here.
