Stars roll to 12-0 win over Texas Wesleyan

OCU scores 10 runs or more for 12th time in 2014

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University dispatched Texas Wesleyan 12-0 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
The Stars struck for seven runs in the first inning. Oklahoma City, ranked 16th in the NAIA, improved to 34-16.
OCU plays Northwood (Texas) at 5 p.m. Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium. Both teams sit at 2-0 in the tournament. The winner Sunday gains a spot in the championship game Monday.
In the top of the first, Connor Lynch pounded a double to left field to score Kyle Lacy with the Stars' first run. Forrest Smith delivered an RBI double of his own for a 2-0 OCU lead. The Stars tacked on three more runs taking advantage of a passed ball, error and a wild pitch. Garrett Foster knocked in a run with a single to left, then Lacy put OCU ahead 7-0 by nailing a double into the left-center gap.
Lynch hammered the first pitch of the second inning over the left-field wall for a home run and an 8-0 Stars advantage.
In the third, Lacy reached home plate on a wild pitch for OCU's ninth run. Ryan Wright smoked an RBI single to left field to score Hunter Marcum from third. Foster scored on the play from second via an error. Wright closed out the scoring by making it home on a wild pitch.
Austin Murphy, a junior from Denver, went 3-for-3 and scored a run, while Wright, a junior from Fruitland, Colo., was 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI for Oklahoma City.
Lacy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., was 3-for-5 with two runs scored, a double and a run driven in, and Lynch, a junior from Marietta, Ga., went 2-for-5 with a run scored, two RBIs and his 12th homer of the year. Foster, a freshman from Ardmore, Okla., went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a double and an RBI.
The Stars reached double figures in runs for the 12th time this season and double digits in hits for the 18th time this year.
Brad Wieck benefited from the run support to notch the win, moving to 5-4 in 2014. Wieck, a junior left-hander from Canyon, Texas, struck out seven in five innings. Wieck allowed six hits and a walk. Cale Russell and Ricky Spain each worked an inning for OCU.
