OCU edges Southwestern Assemblies of God 2-1

Marcum provides Stars game-winning RBI

Michael Nolan piled up a season-high 13 strikeouts Friday night.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Hunter Marcum knocked in the game-winning run as Oklahoma City University topped Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) 2-1 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament.
Marcum, a sophomore from Purcell, Okla., socked a base hit to right field with two out in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Stars. OCU, ranked 16th in the NAIA, moved to 33-16. The Stars continue league tournament play against Texas Wesleyan at 5 p.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Brett Dixon scored the winning run for Oklahoma City. Dixon ran for Forrest Smith, who led off the inning with a single to center field. Austin Murphy followed with a base hit to center to bring Dixon to scoring position at second base. Marcum had a full count before his single.
Southwestern Assemblies of God took a 1-0 seventh-inning lead when Nick Sheffield's RBI single to left broke a scoreless tie. OCU answered in the bottom of the inning as Ryan Wright crushed a run-scoring triple to the right center-field wall to drive home Kyle Lacy from first.
Oklahoma City's Michael Nolan and Roby Romero outdueled SAGU pitchers Jarrod Pisers and Raul Castro. Nolan, a junior left-hander from Yonkers, N.Y., struck out a season-high 13 and allowed an unearned run on four hits in 7.1 innings. Nolan registered 119 pitches, 77 for strikes.
Romero, a junior right-hander from Santa Fe, N.M., posted the victory by retiring Southwestern Assemblies in order the final 1.2 innings. Romero (2-2) fanned four. Pisers (5-7) had six strikeouts in 7.1 innings on 109 pitches, but allowed two runs on 10 hits.
Smith, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., went 3-for-4 with a double, while Marcum went 2-for-4 with an RBI for OCU. Lacy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored, and Connor Lynch, a junior from Marietta, Ga., was 1-for-3.
Adam Clark, a junior from St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, and Garrett Foster, a freshman from Ardmore, Okla., each went 1-for-2.
