Wieck strikes out 16, Stars top Mid-America Christian 15-0

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University clubbed Mid-America Christian 15-0 Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Brad Wieck allowed just one hit and struck out 16 batters to help the Stars shut out the Evangels. OCU, ranked No. 14 in NAIA baseball, improved to 31-16 overall and 19-7 in Sooner Athletic Conference play with the win.
Forrest Smith and Jared Baker each scored on a wild pitch to put OCU on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning. Josh Dickey drove in Austin Murphy to cap the inning and make the score 3-0.
Connor Lynch blasted a two-run homer to left-center field in the bottom of the third to stretch the OCU lead to 5-0.
Ryan Wright drove in Hunter Marcum to make the score 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
The Stars pushed six runs across in the bottom of the fifth. Smith started the scoring with a solo home run to center field. Baker scored on a Mid-America Christian error and Adam Clark scored on a wild pitch. Wright drove in run and later scored on another Evangels' error along with Kyle Lacy to stretch the Stars' advantage to 12-0.
Chris Valdes doubled to left center and drove in Adonis Askew, Dickey and Garrett Foster in the bottom of the sixth to stake OCU to a 15-0 lead.
Wieck gave up his only hit of the night in the top of the seventh but retired the side and handed the Stars the 15-0 run-rule victory. The 6-foot-9 lefty turned his fifth double-digit strikeout performance of the season and improved to 4-4 on the season. Wieck has allowed just two runs in his last four starts and upped his season strikeout total to 105.
Valdes went 1-for-1 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the dish. Wright and Lynch followed with two RBIs apiece.
OCU will return to action in its regular-season finale against Mid-America Christian at noon Saturday at James Curtis Field in Oklahoma City.
