Oklahoma Christian slips past OCU 13-10

Lynch homers twice, while Henderson returns to pitch for Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Christian prevailed over Oklahoma City University 13-10 in a slugfest Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Connor Lynch launched two home runs to lead the Stars, who had 15 hits. OCU, ranked 10th in NAIA baseball, went to 28-13.
Oklahoma City built leads of 4-0 in the second inning and 6-4 in the fifth. The Stars overcame a 10-6 deficit to tie the game 10-10 in the seventh. Zac Cobble's RBI single in the eighth provided the difference.
Ryan Wright pounded a two-run double to deep center field to give the Stars a 4-0 lead. OCU went up 5-3 as Lynch hammered a solo blast beyond the left-field wall in the fourth. Garrett Foster nailed a run-scoring base hit through the middle of the infield to put OCU ahead 6-4 in the fifth.
Oklahoma Christian responded with six runs in the sixth. Lynch sent his second homer of the night to left to cut Oklahoma City's deficit to 10-7 in the sixth. Jared Baker reached home plate on a botched pickoff try by the pitcher also in the sixth.
The Stars' Forrest Smith knotted the game at 10-each by sailing a two-run double past the center fielder to the wall. Oklahoma City left the bases full in the first and the second, while Cale Russell slipped out of a one-out bases-loaded jam by striking out Oklahoma Christian's Caleb Price and retiring Cobble on a groundout in the fifth.
Lynch, a junior from Marietta, Ga., went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, a stolen base and two RBIs for OCU. Lynch brought his season totals to a .422 average with 10 homers.
Smith, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs driven in, and Kyle Lacy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 3-for-5 and scored a run for the Stars.
Ryan Wright, a junior from Fruitland, Idaho, went 2-for-5 with a double, steal, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Baker, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., was 2-for-4 with a triple, run scored and an RBI.
Shane Henderson pitched for Oklahoma City for the first time since March 22. Roby Romero took the loss for OCU.
The Stars face Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a 3 p.m. doubleheader Thursday in Plainview, Texas.
