Stars take two from Texas Wesleyan

OCU completes season sweep of Texas Wesleyan

Forrest Smith clubbed his 14th home run of the season against Texas Wesleyan.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped Texas Wesleyan 8-2 and 10-4 and completed a three-game sweep of the Rams Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 11 in NAIA baseball, outscored Texas Wesleyan 24-8 over the series and picked up three wins to improve to 23-9 overall and 12-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
OCU struck first when Forrest Smith singled to left field and plated Adonis Askew to make the score 1-0 in the bottom of the first.
The Rams answered with a pair of RBI doubles in the top of third inning and took a 2-1 lead.
A sacrifice fly from Hunter Marcum evened the score at 2-2 in the bottom of fourth.
The Stars broke the game open with a four-run bottom of the fifth. Kyle Lacy scored on a wild pitch to start the scoring. Jared Baker and Austin Murphy followed with RBI singles to stretch the OCU lead. Baker scored on an error later in the inning to make the Stars' advantage 6-2.
Ryan Wright and Garrett Foster each scored on passed balls in the bottom of the sixth and put the game out of reach at 8-2.
Michael Nolan struck out six in seven inning of work to pick up the win and move to 4-2 on the season.
Baker, Marcum, Murphy and Smith drove in one run apiece to lead OCU at the dish.
The Rams pushed a run across in the top first and two more in the top of second to take a 3-0 lead in the second game.
OCU responded with a nine run outburst in the bottom of the second. Murphy and Josh Halbert each drove in a run to put the Stars on the scoreboard. Lacy drew a bases-loaded walk, and Marcum and Adam Clark both scored on an error to give OCU the lead at 5-3.
Later in the inning, Smith slugged a grand slam home run over the left-center field fence to make the score 9-3 in favor of OCU.
Foster doubled to right center and drove in Clark to give OCU a 10-3 lead.
Texas Wesleyan managed a run in the top of the seventh but reliever Roby Romero retired the side and handed OCU the 10-4 victory.
Brad Wieck struck out 11 in six inning of work and picked up his first win of the season. Romero struck out one in an inning of relief.
Smith went 1-for-2 at the plate with four RBIs to lead OCU offensively.
The Stars will return to action against Bacone at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
