OCU drops 12-4 decision to East Central

Stars resume league play vs. Texas Wesleyan at 4 p.m. Friday at home

Austin Murphy's walk with the bases full gave OCU a 2-0 third-inning lead.

ADA, Okla. – Oklahoma City University took a 12-4 defeat at the hands of East Central on Tuesday at Tiger Field.
The Stars built a 4-0 fourth-inning lead, but East Central rallied with six runs in the fourth and the fifth. OCU, ranked 11th in NAIA baseball, fell to 20-9 on the season.
In the third, OCU filled the bases on Ryan Wright's bunt hit. Connor Lynch was hit by pitch to bring in one run, then Austin Murphy drew a bases-loaded walk for a 2-0 Stars lead.
Kyle Lacy added an RBI double to right field in the fourth. Lacy scored on Lynch's double to left for a 4-0 OCU advantage.
East Central rallied from a 4-1 deficit with five runs in the fifth. Ethan Gold had an RBI single that put the Tigers ahead 5-4 with one out in the bottom of the fifth.
Lacy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Lynch, a junior from Marietta, Ga., was 1-for-2 with two runs driven in for the Stars. Garrett Foster, a freshman from Ardmore, Okla., went 1-for-2, scored twice and stole a base for OCU.
Cale Russell went four innings and allowed one run on five hits in a starting role for OCU. Chris Valdes took the loss for the Stars.
OCU picks up Sooner Athletic Conference play by facing Texas Wesleyan at 4 p.m. Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
