OCU suffers 17-4 setback to OBU

Stars go to 20-8, 9-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference play

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Baptist dealt Oklahoma City University a 17-4 loss Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Ryan Wright's infield single brought in a run to cut the Stars' deficit to 5-4 in the second inning. Oklahoma Baptist, ranked 11th in NAIA baseball, responded with the game's next 12 runs.
Fifth-ranked OCU went to 20-8, 9-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while Oklahoma Baptist is now 25-4, 9-2 in SAC play.
Jared Baker socked a two-run base hit to left to stake the Stars to a 2-0 first-inning lead. Oklahoma Baptist answered with five runs in the top of the second. Tyler Melton's infield hit put OBU in front 3-2.
In the bottom of the second, Garrett Foster knocked in a run with a single to left, cutting OCU's deficit to 5-3.
Wright, a junior from Fruitland, Idaho, went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Foster, a freshman from Ardmore, Okla., was 1-for-2 with an RBI, and Josh Halbert, a senior from Choctaw, Okla., went 1-for-3 and scored a run for OCU.
Shane Henderson took the loss for the Stars to drop to 4-2 on the year.
The Stars face East Central at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Ada, Okla.
