Stars fall 12-1 to Oklahoma Baptist

OCU now 1-1 in season series with OBU

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University suffered a 12-1 setback against Oklahoma Baptist Friday at Bison Field at Ford Park.
The Stars, ranked No. 5 in NAIA baseball, were outhit 13-5 by the 11th-ranked Bison and moved to 20-7 overall and 9-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play with the loss.
OBU jumped on top early with a four-run bottom of the first inning highlighted by a two-run homer from Steven Knudson.
OBU tacked on another three runs in the bottom of the second and two more in the bottom of third when Ridge Hoopie-Haslem hit a two-run home run.
The Bison struck for three more runs in the bottom of the sixth. Garrett Roberts tripled and drove in a pair of runs to make the score 12-0.
Garrett Foster put the Stars on the scoreboard when he doubled and drove in Austin Murphy from first base and made the score 12-1 with two outs in the top of the seventh. OBU's Jordan Morales limited the damage and handed OCU the 12-1 loss.
Starting pitcher Michael Nolan struck out two in three innings of work but was saddled with the loss. Cale Russell struck out two in three innings of relief.
Foster went 3-for-3 at the plate and drove in a run to lead the Stars at the dish.
OCU will return to action against Oklahoma Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
