OCU blitzes Southwestern Christian 13-2

Stars erupt for seven runs in sixth inning

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University trampled Southwestern Christian 13-2 on Thursday at Dolese Park.
The Stars piled up 18 hits. OCU, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, improved to 16-4, 7-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
OCU exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth inning. Connor Lynch pounded a two-run double to deep left field, and Austin Murphy nailed a two-RBI base hit to right.
Also posting run-scoring singles in the inning were Josh Dickey, Garrett Foster and Hunter Marcum.
Foster drove in OCU's first run with a single to left-center field in the second. Dickey had an RBI single as part of a two-run fifth.
In the seventh, Lynch put the Stars ahead 11-0 by pounding an RBI double along the left-field foul line. Forrest Smith tacked on a two-run double for a 13-0 OCU advantage.
Shane Henderson improved to 4-1 with the victory. Henderson, a senior right-hander from Flower Mound, Texas, struck out 10 in 6.2 shutout innings. He allowed two hits and two walks. Duncan Reynolds finished on the mound for the Stars.
Lynch, a junior from Marietta, Ga., went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, while Murphy, a junior from Denver, was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs driven in for OCU.
Marcum, a sophomore from Purcell, Okla., went 3-for-4, scored twice and brought in a run, and Adonis Askew, a junior from Houston, was 3-for-4 with a run scored.
OCU has revamped its schedule for this weekend. The Stars conclude their series against Southwestern Christian with a 2:30 p.m. doubleheader Friday at Dolese Park.
