Stars fall to Bacone 8-3

OCU now 15-4 on season

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University suffered an 8-3 setback against Bacone Tuesday at Warrior Baseball Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 5 in NAIA baseball, jumped out to an early lead but surrendered four runs in the bottom of the first inning and never recovered. The loss moves OCU to 15-4 on the young season.
OCU jumped on top 1-0 in the top of the first when Connor Lynch doubled to left field and drove in Kyle Lacy from third base.
The Warriors answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning and took a 4-1 advantage.
Lynch singled through the left side of the infield and scored Lacy from second base to cut the Bacone lead to 4-2 in the top of the third.
Bacone tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh and extended its lead to 6-2.
Forrest Smith scored on a Warrior error in the top of the eighth and cut the Stars deficit to 6-3.
Bacone pushed two insurance runs across in the bottom of the eighth before retiring the OCU side in the top of the ninth to take the 8-3 victory.
Starting pitcher Brad Wieck allowed four runs on six hits and struck out eight in six innings of work. Holden Lyons tossed two innings in relief.
Lynch went 3-for-5 and drove in a pair of runs to lead OCU at the dish.
The Stars will return to Sooner Athletic Conference play at 3 p.m. Thursday against Southwestern Christian in Bethany, Okla.
