Stars split twin bill with Tabor

OCU rebounds from 11-1 loss to win 8-3 in second game

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University pounded Tabor (Kan.) 8-3 after dropping the first game of the doubleheader 11-1 on Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Jared Baker, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., topped OCU with four hits on the day and nailed his first career home run in the second game. The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, went to 5-2.
In the second game, OCU went up 4-1 when Garrett Foster scored on an error in the second inning. Austin Murphy had an RBI single that tied the game 1-1.
Hunter Marcum added an RBI groundout, then Foster socked a run-scoring single for a 3-1 OCU advantage.
Tabor cut its deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fourth. OCU answered with a pair of runs each in the bottom of the fourth and the fifth.
In the fourth, Marcum reached home on an error after advancing to third base on Foster's fly ball. Connor Lynch tacked on a sacrifice fly.
In the fifth, Baker crushed the first pitch of his at-bat over the right-field wall. Kyle Lacy singled to drive in another run.
Murphy, a junior from Denver, was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a run driven in. Baker went 2-for-3, scored twice and brought in a run, while Marcum, a sophomore from Purcell, Okla., went 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI for the Stars.
Lynch, a junior from Marietta, Ga., went 1-for-3 with an RBI, and Halbert, a junior from Choctaw, Okla., was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Michael Nolan a junior left-hander from Yonkers, N.Y., registered his first victory with OCU. Nolan went six innings, permitted three runs on six hits and a walk and struck out three. Roby Romero fanned two in the seventh.
In the early game, Baker went 2-for-3 with a double, and Lacy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., struck for his first career homer. Lynch and Murphy added hits.
Tabor's Jacob Webb had 10 strikeouts while allowing five hits and a walk in a complete-game effort.
The Stars meet Oklahoma Wesleyan at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
