Stars sock Tabor 9-4

OCU collects fourth consecutive win

Jared Baker knocked in a run on a fifth-inning double Friday.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University stomped Tabor (Kan.) 9-4 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Forrest Smith, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., swatted a home run and a double to drive in two runs for OCU. The Stars, ranked fifth in NAIA baseball, moved to 4-1.
The Stars went up 7-3 in the fifth inning when Jared Baker doubled to left-center field to score Smith. Baker and Josh Dickey went home when Tabor shortstop Gadiel Baez misfired a relay throw on the play.
OCU erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the second. Garrett Foster skied a two-run double over the center fielder to put the Stars in front. Josh Halbert added a sacrifice fly for OCU's third run of the day.
Dickey nailed an RBI single to left in the third. Smith closed OCU's scoring with a two-run blast over the left-field wall in the seventh.
Shane Henderson collected his first victory of the season. Henderson, a senior right-hander from Flower Mound, Texas, struck out seven while allowing an earned run on seven hits and four walks in five innings. Henderson improved to 1-1.
Brad Wieck finished on the mound for the Stars. Wieck, a junior left-hander from Canyon, Texas, fanned five and permitted one run on four hits and two walks in four innings. Wieck notched the save in his OCU debut.
Smith went 2-for-2 and scored three runs, while Austin Murphy, a junior from Denver, went 3-for-4 with a double and run scored for the Stars. Baker, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., was 2-for-4 with two run scored, an RBI and a double, and Foster, a freshman from Ardmore, Okla., went 2-for-4 with a run scored, a double and two RBIs. Dickey, a senior from Bakersfield, Calif., went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in a run.
The Stars finish their series against Tabor with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
