Stars hammer Mid-America Christian

OCU increases win streak to four matches

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University stomped Mid-America Christian 25-15, 25-15, 25-17 on Friday night at the Gaulke Activity Center.
Kristen Macy, a sophomore from Edmond, Okla., spurred OCU with 14 kills, nine digs, three aces and two blocks. The Stars moved to 17-9, 9-3 in Sooner Athletic Conference volleyball.
The Stars' Meghan Irwin, a senior from Arlington, Texas, notched 12 kills and five digs, and Taylor Chase, a junior from Yukon, Okla., produced 37 assists, four digs and two kills.
Kelley Shiels, a senior from Edmond, Okla., supplied OCU with nine digs. Aspen Healy, a senior from Oklahoma City, and Holly Randall, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., generated six kills each for the Stars.
"It was a good team win after coming off an emotional night, and I'm glad we responded positively by getting the win in three sets," OCU coach Kyle Steele said.
OCU erased a 3-1 deficit with six points in a row. In the second set, Irwin had a kill to cap a 7-0 run to build an 8-1 advantage. Healy nailed a kill to finish off four unanswered points and put the Stars up 16-9.
The Stars take on Southwestern Christian at 7 p.m. Thursday at Abe Lemons Arena. As part of Dig Pink Night, Phi Mu will be selling t-shirts to benefit the fight against breast cancer at the match.
