OCU knocks off Mid-America Christian 4-2

Munoz RBI triple boosts top-ranked Stars

OKLAHOMA CITY – No. 1-ranked Oklahoma City University opened Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament play with a 4-2 victory over Mid-America Christian on Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Chris Munoz drove in the winning run with a triple to put OCU up 3-0 in the second inning. The Stars, top-ranked in the NAIA, improved to 45-10. OCU continues pool play with a 6 p.m. contest against Rogers State on Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Cody Crabaugh limited Mid-America Christian to two runs on eight hits and two walks in eight innings. Crabaugh, a senior right-hander from Edmond, Okla., improved to 13-1 and struck out seven.
Crabaugh kept Mid-America scoreless and allowed one runner to reach second base through 7.1 innings. Mid-America's Taylor Daniels had an RBI single, then Dustin Carlsward had a run-scoring double. Crabaugh retired Kory Palmer on a groundout to second to get out of the eighth.
Davis Henderson worked a 1-2-3 ninth inning to pick up his eighth save of the year. Henderson, a senior righty from Spring, Texas, fanned Brandon Spainhour and Bryan McKissick to finish the game.
Forrest Smith drove in the Stars' first run of the day with a base hit to center field in the second. Walker Davidson contributed an RBI groundout for OCU's second run.
Also in the second, Munoz belted a drive to right-center for a triple to score Chase Jensen.
Jensen extended the Stars' advantage to 4-0 in the fourth, reaching home plate on a wild pitch.
Munoz, a senior from Hacienda Heights, Calif., went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Jensen, a senior from Arlington, Texas, went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Cody Ferrell, a senior from McLoud, Okla., was 1-for-3, tripled, scored a run and swiped a base, and Davidson, a senior from Berryhill, Okla., went 1-for-3 with an RBI.   
Christian Hill took the loss for the Evangels. Hill (3-9) threw a complete game. Hill went 2-for-3, while Palmer was 3-for-4.
