Stars pound Texas Wesleyan 13-6

OCU pounded five home runs on the day and improved to 41-9 on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University outslugged Texas Wesleyan 13-6 Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 1 in NAIA baseball, clubbed five home runs against the 25th-ranked Rams and improved to 41-9 on the season.
Jonathan Rodriguez doubled to center field and drove in a run to get the Stars on the board in the bottom of the first. Forrest Smith followed with an RBI single through the left side of the infield to give OCU a 2-0 lead.
Jonathan Sigado led off the bottom of the second with a solo home run to left center and stretched the Stars' lead to 3-0.
Texas Wesleyan's Dusty Harper homered in the top of third, but Cody Ferrell countered with a two-run blast down the left-field line in the bottom of the inning to make the score 5-1.
Charles Tabone added a solo home run of his own in the top of the fourth to cut the OCU lead to 5-2.
The Stars responded with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Munoz smacked a two-run home run down the right-field line and Rodriguez followed with an RBI triple.
Rodriguez later scored on a wild pitch and Smith capped the inning with an RBI double to right to make the OCU lead 10-2.
Texas Wesleyan scored a run in fifth, two more in the sixth and another in the eighth to trim the Stars' lead to 10-6.
In the bottom of the eighth, Kale Gaden tripled to center and plated Rodriguez. Ferrell followed with his second two-run shot of the game to give OCU a 13-6 lead.
Ricky Spain retired the Texas Wesleyan side in order in the top of the ninth to give the Stars the 13-6 victory.
Dalton Bernardi allowed three runs on four hits with five strikeouts in five innings of work to get the win and move to 5-1 on the season. Chad Nelson, Will Patrigo and Spain each made relief appearances.
Ferrell went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and two home runs to lead OCU at the dish.
The Stars will return to action in a 3 p.m. doubleheader against Rogers State Thursday at the Diamond Sports Complex in Claremore, Okla.
