Stars fall to Oklahoma Baptist 5-2, 3-2

OCU split the season series with the Bison 2-2

SHAWNEE, Okla. – Oklahoma City University dropped both ends of a doubleheader 5-2 and 3-2 to Oklahoma Baptist Friday at Bison Field at Ford Park.
The Stars, ranked No. 4 in NAIA baseball, split the season series with the Bison 2-2 and moved to 20-5 overall and 2-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
The Bison notched five runs in the top of the second inning. Kevin Hatch capped the scoring with a three-run home run to left field and staked Oklahoma Baptist to a 5-0 lead.
Chris Muñoz doubled to left center to lead off the top of the fifth. Later in the inning, Kale Gaden singled through the right side of the infield and plated Muñoz to cut the Oklahoma Baptist lead to 5-1.
Jonathan Rodriguez singled to right field and plated Walker Davidson to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Bison. Oklahoma Baptist retired two of the next three OCU batters and took the 5-2 victory.
Dalton Bernardi allowed five runs on five hits in 2.1 innings and was saddled with the loss. Patrick Goelz tossed 3.2 innings in relief.
Rodriguez and Gaden each drove in a run to lead the Stars at the dish.
Oklahoma Baptist jumped on the scoreboard with three runs in the bottom of the second. The Bison scored runs on an error, a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch to take a 3-0 lead.
Brayden Brumley got the Stars on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly to plate Davidson in the top of the sixth. Later in the inning, Chase Jensen singled to right to drive in Rodriguez and cut the Bison lead to 3-2.
The Oklahoma Baptist pitching staff shut the Stars down in the top of the seventh to take the 3-2 victory.
Ryan Gibson and reliever Davis Henderson combined to allow no hits in seven innings. Gibson started and tossed 4.1 innings. Henderson threw 1.2 innings out of the bullpen.
Brumley and Jensen notched one RBI apiece to lead OCU at the plate.
The Stars will return to action in a doubleheader against Northwood (Texas) at 2 p.m. March 12 in Cedar Hill, Texas.
