Stars nudge by OBU in doubleheader sweep

OCU prevails 3-2, then 5-4 in clash of top 10-ranked squads

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University scraped out 5-4 and 3-2 victories over Oklahoma Baptist on Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium in a contest featuring top 10-ranked teams in NAIA baseball.
Kale Gaden had the RBI double to win the first game, while Chris Muñoz had a home run to give the Stars the victory in the nightcap. Fourth-ranked OCU improved to 20-3, 2-0 in the Sooner Athletic Conference, while 10th-ranked Oklahoma Baptist moved to 14-7, 0-2 in the SAC.
OCU extended its win streak to 11 games.
Gaden cranked a walk-off RBI double to center field to rally OCU from a 4-3 deficit in the first contest. Earlier in the bottom of the seventh, Muñoz doubled with one out. Dalton Bernardi pinch ran for Muñoz and scored the tying run on Jonathan Rodriguez's two-out base hit past the shortstop.
Chase Jensen reached on an error to put runners on first and second base and set up Gaden's heroics.
In the top of the seventh, OBU went ahead 4-3 with Greg Nelson's two-run double with two out.
Cody Ferrell reached home plate on a wild pitch to give OCU a 3-2 sixth-inning edge. Ferrell got to third by stealing second and taking third on an error. Jonathan Sigado scored on a wild pitch in the fifth to tie the game 2-2.
Yael Colon put OBU on the scoreboard in the third with an RBI triple. Nelson brought home another run with a groundout. In the bottom of the inning, Walker Davidson cut OCU's deficit to 2-1 on a run-scoring double.
Davis Henderson grabbed the victory after notching the final two outs of the top of the seventh. Henderson, a senior right-hander from Spring, Texas, went to 5-0. Derek Howell, a senior righty from Krum, Texas, worked 6.1 innings and allowed three runs on four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts.
Muñoz smashed a solo shot over the right-field wall in the bottom of the fifth to give the Stars the victory in the nightcap. Muñoz turned on a full-count pitch.
In the top of the fifth, Oklahoma Baptist knotted the score 2-2 using Nelson's two-run double.
The Stars went up 2-0 in the first as Rodriguez and Josh Dickey each had RBI base hits.
Cody Crabaugh earned the win with the second complete game of his OCU career. Crabaugh, a senior righty from Edmond, Okla., fanned four and allowed two unearned runs on four hits and three walks in seven innings. Crabaugh logged 111 pitches.
OCU meets Oklahoma Baptist in a 4 p.m. doubleheader Friday in Shawnee, Okla.
