OCU tops Baker 5-1, Saint Mary 5-0

OCU scored 10 runs in 14 innings to move to 15-3 overall on the season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University downed Baker (Kan.) 5-1 and Saint Mary (Kan.) 5-0 Saturday at Jim Wade Stadium.
OCU, ranked No. 4 in NAIA baseball, allowed one run in 14 innings to move to 15-3 on the young season.
With the two wins today, Denney Crabaugh has a record of 1,199-369-2 in his 25th year as OCU head coach. Crabaugh is an NAIA and Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association hall of famer. Entering this season, OCU had the most wins in college baseball since 1991 at 1,118.
Kale Gaden singled through the right side of the infield to plate Walker Davidson and put the Stars on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Chase Jensen followed with a sacrifice fly and Forrest Smith notched an RBI single to push the OCU lead to 3-0 over Baker.
In the top of the fourth, Baker scored to cut the Stars' lead to 3-1.
Dalton Bernardi drove in Cody Ferrell in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 4-1. Brayden Brumley scored on an error later in the inning to give OCU and 5-1 advantage.
Patrick Goelz struck out two batters in the top of the seventh to close the door on Baker and give the Stars the 5-1 victory.
Ryan Gibson allowed one run on five hits with five strikeouts and tossed 4.2 innings to pick up his first win of the season.
Goelz tossed 2.1 scoreless innings and struck out three batters in relief and nailed down his first save of the season.
Bernardi, Gaden, Jensen and Smith each drove in a run to lead OCU at the dish.
Smith led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run over the right-field fence to give OCU a 1-0 edge over Saint Mary. Later in the inning, Brumley drove in Ferrell on a sacrifice fly to stake the Stars to a 2-0 lead.
Jonathan Sigado singled up the middle to score Ferrell and Adam Clark to stretch the OCU lead to 4-0. Davidson followed with an RBI double down the left field line to make the score 5-0 in favor of the Stars.
Chad Nelson struck out two batters in the top of the seventh and shut down Saint Mary to give OCU the 5-0 victory.
Derek Howell tallied five strikeouts in 6.1 scoreless innings to move to 3-1 on the season. Nelson tossed 0.2 innings in relief.
Sigado went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Smith pounded his fourth home run of the season to lead the Stars at the plate.
The Stars will return to action against Baker at 10 a.m. and Saint Mary at 3 p.m. Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium.
