OCU pounds Bellevue 11-5

Fourth-ranked Stars even season series against 17th-rated Bellevue

Cody Ferrell hit two home runs in one game for the second time as a Star.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University walloped Bellevue (Neb.) 11-5 on Sunday at Jim Wade Stadium in a clash of top 25-ranked NAIA baseball teams.
Cody Ferrell, a senior from McLoud, Okla., hammered two home runs and drove in three runs to power the Stars. Fourth-ranked OCU improved to 11-3, while 17th-ranked Bellevue (5-1-1) suffered its first loss of the year.
OCU produced double digits in runs for the sixth time this year.
The Stars jumped out to a 5-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning. Ferrell bounced an RBI single into left field for the game's first run. Walker Davidson added a two-run double to left, then Chris Muñoz and Brayden Brumley nailed RBI base hits. Muñoz extended OCU's advantage to 7-1 with a two-run double to right in the third.
After Bellevue cut OCU's lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth, Ferrell led off the bottom of the inning by crushing a 2-1 offering over the net in left field. With the bases full, Jonathan Rodriguez socked a two-run base hit into center.
Ferrell struck for another homer over the left-field wall in the sixth. Ferrell posted the second multihomer game of his OCU career. Ferrell previously went deep twice in OCU's 13-2 win April 13, 2012 at Oklahoma Christian.
Dalton Bernardi picked up his third win in three appearances this year. Bernardi, a junior right-hander from Choctaw, Okla., pitched the final 4.1 innings for the Stars. He fanned seven and allowed one run on two hits and a walk.
Ferrell finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored, while Muñoz, a senior from Hacienda Heights, Calif., went 2-for-5 with three RBIs. Davidson, a senior from Berryhill, Okla., scored twice and drove in two runs, and Rodriguez, a junior from Anaheim, Calif., was 1-for-3 with two RBIs.
OCU faces East Central at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Ada, Okla.
