Stars top Baker 1-0

No. 11 OCU got a late goal to sneak past No. 6 Baker in double overtime

Sheridan Horner scored in overtime to give the Stars their first win of the season.

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University topped No. 6 Baker (Kan.) 1-0 in double overtime Saturday at Stars Field.
The Stars, ranked No. 11 in NAIA women's soccer, got the game-winning goal from senior Sheridan Horner, of Choctaw, Okla., in the 107th minute. OCU improved to 1-0 on the season.
Junior Meghan McMahon, of Oklahoma City, saw her first shot of the season go off the cross bar in the fifth minute of the game. The near miss would be OCU's best scoring opportunity of the first half as the teams headed into halftime tied at 0-0.
McMahon had three shots on goal in the second half, but Baker's Rachel Theobald saved all three to send the match into overtime.
Sophomore Sandra Hallin, of Orebro, Sweden, had her shot saved by Theobald in the 95th minute to keep the score at 0-0 through the first overtime period.
In the 107th minute, Horner took a pass from McMahon and scored her first goal of the season to give OCU the 1-0 victory.
Juniors Ashley Bechtold and Alissa Reed split time in goal. Bechtold got the start and recorded three saves in 65 minutes of action. Reed made one save in 45 minutes of work.
The Stars will return to action against No. 21 Texas-Brownsville at 5 p.m. Aug. 31 at Stars Field.
