OKLAHOMA CITY – College Sports Communicators voted Oklahoma City midfielder
Kayleigh Haygood to the Academic All-America first team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
Â
The award requires a cumulative 3.50 grade point average or higher and a significant contribution to the success of the team. Nominees who earn Academic All-District and are considered elite-level are placed on a national ballot and are voted on by NAIA members of the CSC.
Â
"Well deserved for someone who works so hard on and off the field," said OCU Head Coach
Billy Martin. "She proves that you can work hard and still enjoy playing the game. Her attitude towards school and soccer is infectious. So lucky to have her on our team. Not a surprise that she is receiving this award."
Â
Haygood, a junior physical education major from Edmond, is the first OCU women's soccer player to earn the award since 2011 when Lauren Haymans was named first-team and Brenna Skillem earned second team.
Â
Haygood earned Sooner Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year and first-team All-SAC. She had 12 goals and nine assists on the season.
