Lubbock Christian ousts OCU from SAC Tournament 6-5

Second-ranked Stars host NAIA Championship Opening Round on May 10-14

Dane Phillips crushed a double that tied the game Friday and equaled the NAIA leader with his 25th double this year.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Lubbock Christian (Texas) advanced past Oklahoma City University 6-5 on Friday at Jim Wade Stadium into the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament championship game.
Lubbock Christian's Ryan Burnaman got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth inning. Lubbock Christian will take on Oklahoma Baptist at 1 p.m. Saturday in Shawnee, Okla.
OCU, ranked second in the NAIA, fell to 43-9. The Stars will host an NAIA Championship Opening-Round Tournament on May 10-14 at Jim Wade Stadium. Pairings for the Opening Round are set to be released Sunday.
Miguel Beltran nailed his nation-high 24th home run, a two-run blast that bounced off center fielder Reagan Pearson's glove over the wall in right-center field. Beltran's shot cut the Stars' deficit to 6-5 with none out in the eighth.
Dane Phillips drew a walk after Beltran's homer to chase starting pitcher Tyler Rogers. Jonathan Sigado walked with two out to load the bases. Burnaman, who had walked Brian Fisher in the inning, retired Rich Hawkins on a fly ball to left to escape the inning.
Burnaman worked a 1-2-3 ninth to pick up his third save. Rogers (9-4) allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks in seven innings.
OCU tied the game 3-3 in the third. Hawkins reached home plate on an error, then Beltran brought in another run on a sacrifice fly to center. Phillips doubled to right to tie the game with two out.
J.T. Bean broke the tie with an RBI single in the seventh. Lubbock Christian added two runs in the eighth on Karl Seiter's run-scoring base hit and Jordan Lewis' RBI groundout.
Beltran, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., drove in three runs, while Chris Muñoz, a junior from Hacienda Heights, Calif., was 2-for-5 with a run scored. Phillips tied Jon White of Southern Poly (Ga.) for the NAIA lead with his 25th double of the year.
