Stars clip Rogers State 5-3

OCU comes from behind to improve to 29-6 overall and 17-2 in SAC play

Chris Muñoz went 3-for-4 with a home run against Rogers State Thursday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Second-Ranked Oklahoma City University erased an early 3-0 deficit and downed Rogers State 5-3 Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked No. 2 in NAIA baseball, scored runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to grab the victory and move to 29-6 overall and 17-2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Rogers State pushed two runs across in the top of the first and another in the top of the second to take an early 3-0 lead.
Junior Chris Muñoz cut into the lead with a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the third to make the score 3-1.
OCU tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the fifth when Dane Phillips singled to left to drive in Jonathan Sigado and Brayden Brumley.
Phillips gave the Stars a 4-3 lead in bottom of the seventh with a sacrifice fly to right to plate Muñoz from third base.
Cody Ferrell stole second and later scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the eighth to give OCU a 5-3 advantage.
Reliever Patrick Goelz retired the Hillcats in order in the top of the ninth to pick us his fourth save of the season and give OCU the 5-3 victory.
Rich Hawkins allowed three runs in the first two innings, but recovered and tossed 4.2 scoreless innings with five strike outs. Davis Henderson threw a scoreless 1.1 innings with a strikeout and picked the win the move to 5-0 on the season.
Phillips went 1-for-3 with three RBIs to lead OCU at the plate. Muñoz finished 3-for-4 with an RBI.
The Stars and Hillcats will meet again Saturday in a 2 p.m. doubleheader at Hillcat Complex in Claremore, Okla.
