OCU plays at home in SAC baseball tournament

Pool-play games happen through Friday at OCU, final set for 1 p.m. Saturday at OBU

Jim Wade Stadium will be a site for Sooner Athletic Conference Tournament pool-play games this week.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University opens play in the Sooner Athletic Conference baseball tournament vs. Southern Nazarene at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked second in the NAIA, also take on Northwestern Oklahoma State at 6 p.m. Thursday and 18th-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) at 6 p.m. Friday, both at Jim Wade Stadium.
The SAC Tournament will be jointly hosted by OCU and Oklahoma Baptist. Pool-play winners will meet for the championship at 1 p.m. Saturday on Bison Field at Ford Park in Shawnee, Okla.
Other pool-play games at Jim Wade Stadium will be Lubbock Christian vs. Northwestern at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Lubbock Christian vs. Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m. Thursday and Northwestern vs. Southern Nazarene at 2 p.m. Friday.
OCU has captured the SAC Tournament in 1997, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2010. Rogers State won the league tournament last year.
Miguel Beltran, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., stands tied with Casey Allison of Wingate (N.C.) for the national lead and tops the NAIA in home runs at 22. Beltran has hit .401 with 12 doubles and 62 RBIs for the Stars.
OCU's Dane Phillips, a junior from Nacogdoches, Texas, has hit .442 with 24 doubles, 13 homers and 61 RBIs. Phillips leads the league in batting average and the NAIA in doubles. He has been mentioned among the top catching prospects in the nation.
Rich Hawkins has posted a 10-1 record, 2.10 earned run average, seven complete games, two shutouts and 73 strikeouts in 86.1 innings pitched for OCU. Hawkins, a senior left-hander from Edmond, Okla., topped the league in ERA for the second year in a row.
