Stars post 6-4 win over East Central

Beltran, Muñoz pound home runs for second-ranked OCU

Brayden Brumley provided OCU with a pair of hits and a stolen base Tuesday night.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University knocked off East Central 6-4 on Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
Cody Ferrell, a junior from McLoud, Okla., hit a sacrifice fly to produce the game-winning run for the Stars. OCU, ranked second in NAIA baseball, improved to 37-8.
Chris Muñoz led off the bottom of the third by nailing a solo home run to right field for his ninth homer this year for the Stars. With one out in the third, Miguel Beltran added to his NAIA-high home run total by hammering his 20th homer to left to give OCU a 3-0 advantage.
Jonathan Sigado drove in a run with a base hit to left field to provide the Stars a 4-0 third-inning lead.
Ferrell and Adam Clark executed the double steal to manufacture a 6-2 OCU lead in the fifth.
Dane Phillips knocked in OCU's first run with a two-out double to right field in the first.
East Central cut OCU's edge to 6-4 in the ninth. Greg Hamrock drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on Tyle Hankins' infield hit with two out. Dylan Mascarenas popped out to Muñoz at shortstop to end the game.
Patrick Goelz worked the ninth to earn his seventh save of the season. Goelz, a junior right-hander from Palm Bay, Fla., came on with a runner on first and induced two groundouts and a fly ball to close the game.
Jerod Peper, a senior righty from Adair, Okla., picked up his first victory as a Star. Peper relieved starting pitcher Ryan Gibson, who threw three hitless innings. Peper continued to keep East Central without a hit until one out in the fifth.
Phillips, a junior from Nacogdoches, Texas, went 2-for-3 with her 21st and 22nd doubles of the season. Brayden Brumley, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., was 2-for-4, while Ferrell went 1-for-2 with an RBI with his 15th stolen base of the year. Kale Gaden, a junior from Stillwater, Okla., doubled in the third and scored on Sigado's base hit.
OCU takes on Wayland Baptist (Texas) in a 2 p.m. doubleheader Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
