OCU downs Bacone 4-1

Ryan Gibson tossed five scoreless and struck out seven to help move OCU to 33-7 on the season

Chris Muñoz went 1-for-5 with a run and an RBI against Bacone Monday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Third-ranked Oklahoma City University took down Bacone 4-1 Monday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, No. 3 in NAIA baseball, got seven strikeouts and five scoreless innings from junior-lefty Ryan Gibson to improve to 33-7 on the season.
Kale Gaden got the Stars on the board in the bottom of the first inning with a single through the right side of the infield to score Chad Carman from second base and make the score 1-0.
Carman scored again to push OCU's lead to 2-0 in the bottom of the third after Jonathan Sigado's infield single left home plate uncovered.
In the bottom of the fourth, Chris Muñoz singled up the middle to plate Cody Ferrell and make the score 3-0. Carman followed with a double down the left-field line to score Muñoz from first and give the Stars a 4-0 lead.
Bacon pushed a run across in the top of the ninth but reliever Patrick Goelz closed the door on the Warriors and gave OCU the 4-1 victory.
Gibson allowed one hit and struck out seven in five scoreless innings to pick up the win and move to 2-0 on the season.
Allen Townsend struck out three and tossed three scoreless innings in relief. Jerod Peper, Kyle Lacy and Goelz combine to shut down the Bacone threat in the ninth inning. Goelz picked up his fifth save of the season.
Carman went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to lead OCU at the plate.
OCU will return to action against Oklahoma Christian at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
