Stars trounce Oklahoma Christian 13-2

Third-ranked OCU pads NAIA-leading home run total

Chad Carman notched the second multi-home run game of his OCU career after going deep twice vs. Northwestern (Iowa) in the 2010 NAIA Championship Opening Round.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma City University overpowered Oklahoma Christian 13-2 on the strength of a season-high seven home runs Friday at Dobson Field.
Chad Carman and Cody Ferrell hammered two home runs each for the Stars. OCU, ranked third in NAIA baseball, moved to 32-7, 20-3 in the Sooner Athletic Conference. Oklahoma Christian went to 7-28, 3-23, while falling for the 23rd time in a row.
The Stars postponed their contest against Oklahoma Christian originally scheduled for Saturday due to wet grounds at Jim Wade Stadium. A makeup date will be determined.
Brian Fisher, Dane Phillips and Jonathan Sigado added homers for OCU. Carman posted his second multi-home run game of his career. Carman's first two-homer game came May 18, 2010 vs. Northwestern (Iowa) in the NAIA Championship Opening Round.
The Stars surpassed their six home runs hit at USAO on Feb. 25. OCU leads the NAIA with 63 team homers, while Miguel Beltran tops the NAIA individually with 18 homers.
Phillips, a junior from Nacogdoches, Texas, went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, an RBI, his 20th double and 12th homer of the year. Ferrell, a junior from McLoud, Okla., was 2-for-2 with two runs scored and four RBIs, while Fisher, a senior from Spring, Texas, went 2-for-4 with a double, run scored and a run driven in.
Beltran, a senior from Long Beach, Calif., went 2-for-5 with two runs scored, and Carman, a senior from Midwest City, Okla., was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and two RBIs for OCU.
OCU's Blake Schwartz improved to 8-2 on the year. Schwartz, a senior right-hander from Rosemount, Minn., struck out four in six innings while allowing two runs on six hits and three walks.
The Stars built a 7-0 advantage after the first inning. Carman pounded a homer over the left-center field wall for OCU's first run. Kale Gaden walked to load the bases before Sigado nailed his first homer as a Star to left for a grand slam and a 5-0 OCU lead. With Rich Hawkins on second base, Ferrell clouted a homer to left.
Ferrell homered for the second time Friday in the fifth to answer after Oklahoma Christian scored its first run of the game in the fourth.
Carman socked a homer to left leading off the sixth, while Phillips added a homer of his own later in the inning. Fisher launched a 1-0 pitch that cleared the left-field wall for the final margin.
