Stars squash Mid-America Christian 15-5

OCU scored nine runs in the bottom of the second inning en route to the 15-5 win

Miguel Beltran went 1-for-3 with an RBI against Mid-America Christian Wednesday.
OKLAHOMA CITY – Top-ranked Oklahoma City University slugged out a 15-5 win over Mid-America Christian Wednesday at Jim Wade Stadium.
The Stars, ranked first in the NAIA, improved to 17-4 overall and 8-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.
Mid-America Christian took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but OCU responded with a nine-run bottom of the second.
Kale Gaden started the rally with a triple to right-center field to score Jonathan Sigado and Brian Fisher and make the score 2-1. One batter later Brayden Brumley drove in Gaden to give OCU a 3-1 lead.
After Cody Ferrell tripled to right center and Chris Muñoz drew a walk, Dane Phillips homered to straight-away center to put the Stars on top 6-1.
Later in the inning Chad Carman tripled to right center to drive in a run and Fisher followed with an RBI double down the left field line. Gaden capped the inning with an RBI single to make the score 9-1 in favor of OCU.
Gaden tripled to center to make the Stars' lead 10-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
Phillips' sacrifice fly pushed another run across in the bottom of the fifth. Later in the inning Carman singled through the left side of the infield to drive in a run and make the score 12-1.
Mid-America Christian tacked on four runs in the sixth and seventh innings to make the score 12-5. Miguel Beltran, Rich Hawkins and Sigado all drove in a run in the bottom of the seventh to give OCU the 15-5 run-rule victory.
Hawkins threw five innings and picked up the win to move to 5-1 as a starter.  The senior lefty allowed one run on three hits and struck out four batters.
Jerod Peper made his OCU debut and allowed one run on one hit in an inning of work. Allen Townsend tossed the top of the seventh and allowed three runs on three hits.
Gaden and Phillips led the way at the dish with four RBIs apiece. Carman drove in two runs and Beltran, Brumley, Fisher, Hawkins and Sigado all drove in one run each.
The Stars will return to action against Mid-America Christian at 6 p.m. Thursday at Jim Wade Stadium.
